Sob a tutela e influência de Dan the Automator, o dredg produziu sua mais recente, e excelente, obra Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy. O som do álbum é um choque para quem esperava uma continuação de The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion, um álbum forte, com um pegada heavy e até com faixas orquestradas. Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy começa com Another Tribe, que já assusta por sua batida hip-hop, que poderia muito bem ter saído de um álbum do próprio Dan. Este sentimento percorre o álbum todo, ainda que este varie ferozmente de gêneros, ele como um todo é um álbum dark com uma pegada extremamente pop.
Este rumo diferente que o dredg tomou, pode ser interpretado por muitos como exclusivamente por razões comerciais, mas não é. Ainda que o álbum seja o mais pop da discografia da banda, ele continua com o feeling e o experimentalismo que o dredg sempre emprega em seu som o torna pouco acessível.
O destaque do álbum fica para a faixa The Tent, que Dan ajudou a escrever, e remete imediatamente ao trip-hop de Massive Attack e Portishead. The Thought of Losing You é a tradicional faixa de trabalho do dredg, refrão grudento, letra sentimental e simples. Assim foram Bug Eyes, Same Ol' Road e Information.
Enfim, Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy é um excelente álbum de dark/experimental pop, altamente indicado. Mas para aqueles que ainda não conhecem o som do dredg, talvez não seja a melhor pedida para conhecer o verdadeiro "eu" desta fantástica banda.
